Course Description
This 32-hour course consists of a classroom/lab review of knowledge and skills in basic nursing care performed by the Nurse Aide. We provide a step-by-step review of all the skills required by North Carolina for the state competency exam. We also offer classroom information and testing strategies to help the student feel confident and well-prepared to take the North Carolina Nurse Aide I written exam.
This class is for students who:
- Have completed an approved Nurse Aide training course of at least 75 hours.
- Are currently registered as a Nurse Aide I in another state.
- Have an expired Nurse Aide I registry listing within the last 2 years (any state).
- Have status as a Hospital Corpsman (or similar military training from any branch of service) and require competency evaluation for the NC NAI registry.
A certificate of course completion will be presented following successful completion of the course requirements.
To renew or be listed as a NA-I in the state of NC, the student must successfully pass a written and skills state administered exam. The fee for this exam is $101.00 which will be submitted to NACES along with an application to test and the course completion certificate. We will assist you with the application process and provide you with information regarding available test sites.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of the Nursing Assistant I.
- Demonstrate knowledge and unassisted competence in basic health care skills.
- Communicate, both in writing and orally, information about the patient/resident and with the resident and members of the health care team.
- Demonstrate selected basic nursing special procedures.
- Identify and demonstrate basic infection control measures.
- Identify and demonstrate basic patient safety measures.
- Accurately demonstrate basic measurement procedures of nursing care such as vital signs, body fluids, height and weight.
- Demonstrate ability to recognize and report critical signs of acute and/or chronic conditions.
