The Nurse Aide I and II training programs prepare graduates to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for patients and residents. Emphasis is on the process of aging including the mental, social, and physical needs of the patient.
Students will complete class, laboratory, and clinical experiences. Clinical learning experiences are obtained in the long-care and acute facilities. In all employment settings, the Nurse Aide I and II will work under the supervision of licensed personnel.
Upon satisfactory completion of the Nurse Aide I program, students are eligible to take the North Carolina State Competency Evaluation test that is made up of both written and oral skills (fee required). Upon achieving a passing grade, the graduate is listed as a Nurse Aide I by the Division of Facility Services.
The Nurse Aide II program allows for more advanced skills, preparing the student for certification through the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Students must have successfully completed Nurse Aide I before they are allowed to enroll in Nurse Aide II.
