Guest Judge: Paul Newby, Music Instructor, Richlands High School

Criteria

  • Participant must be a full-time returning student or incoming freshman seeking an Associate in Fine Arts degree in Music at Coastal Carolina Community College.
  • Eligible instruments include voice, piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and classical guitar.
  • Winners must take classes toward completion of the degree in the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.

Guidelines

  • Participant must perform two contrasting pieces from different style periods in separate recordings.
  • Voice, piano and guitar participants should perform from memory.
  • Total performance (time for both pieces must be) under 8 minutes combined.
  • Video recordings must show most of the body.
  • Do not edit or merge multiple performances of the same work into a single video (e.g. via cutting or splicing).
  • Videos should be uploaded to YouTube, then simply Share the link from YouTube in the online application form.
  • Videos need to be “public” or “unlisted”.
  • Upload both videos to the application form.
  • Participant should introduce their name and the title of the composition for each piece before performing.
  • Complete the Statement of Intent by responding the the following prompt “Briefly discuss your plan for music as a career and how CCCC fits into this plan”.
  • GPA will be a factor in consideration of application.
  • Applicants will be judged on performance (60%), Statement of Intent (30%), and GPA (10%).

Award

The final decision will be announced by June 21, 2024 on the Coastal website. All decisions are final, and winners will be notified within one week.

  • First Place Award: Full tuition for both Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters only. (No financial aid will be awarded for summer terms.).  Financial award will be placed in student’s Coastal account.  No funds will be given directly to student, and student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to receive second semester award.
  • Second Place Award: Half tuition for both Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters only. No financial aid will be awarded for summer terms. Financial award will be placed in student’s Coastal account.  No funds will be given directly to student, and student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to receive second semester award.
