Veteran Student Steps for Admission
Welcome!
The Veterans Programs Department welcomes the opportunity to assist you with any questions you may have regarding your well-earned VA education benefits.
These steps will help guide you through the admissions process. If you have any questions, contact the Admissions Office at admissions@coastalcarolina.edu or call 910-938-6332.
Step 1 | Apply for Veterans Benefits
Visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website to apply for your VA education benefits and obtain your Certificate of Eligibility. You may either sign in with an approved VA identification account to save your progress or you may start your application without signing in.
If you have a service-connected disability rating, you may qualify for the Veteran Readiness and Employment Benefits program or VR&E (Chapter 31).
For questions regarding different VA education benefits programs, please contact Coastal’s Veterans Programs Department by emailing veterans@coastalcarolina.edu or by calling 910-938-6380.
Step 2 | Obtain a Residency Certification Number
Complete your residency application through the North Carolina Residency Determination Service (RDS). RDS determines whether you’ll pay in-state or out-of-state tuition. Once completed, you will be assigned a Residency Certification Number (RCN). Save this number! You’ll need it for the Coastal admissions application.
If you are a covered individual using VA education benefits with Coastal Carolina Community College, you may be considered for the in-state tuition rate by special consideration. You will learn more about this process in Step 6.
For more information about RDS, to include the reconsideration or appeals processes for residency classification, please visit https://ncresidency.cfnc.org
Step 3 | Complete Your Admissions Application
Now you’re ready to complete the admissions application!
Things to keep in mind:
- If you need to save it and come back later, you can.
- When entering personal information related to military service, if you intend to use a benefit that is not included on the list of benefit types, please select the Other or Unspecified option.
- Once submitted, allow one week for your application to be processed and to receive an email with your Student ID and login information for your MyCCCC portal.
If you have questions or need assistance with the admissions application, contact the Admissions Office at admissions@coastalcarolina.edu or call 910-938-6332.
Step 4 | Submit Your Transcripts
To have access to VA education benefits at Coastal Carolina Community College, you must submit official high school or high school equivalency transcripts, as well as official transcripts from all post- secondary institutions or vocational & technical training facilities you've attended. This is also a requirement for Federal Student Aid, scholarships, and for admission into limited enrollment programs.
-
Electronic transcripts may be submitted to etranscripts@coastalcarolina.edu. All other transcripts should be mailed to: Coastal Carolina Community College, 444 Western Boulevard, Jacksonville, NC 28546-6816.
-
Consider submitting your Military Joint Service Transcript (JST) and JST Signature Page.
-
Consider submitting any official score reports for the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), Advanced Placement (AP), Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT), and DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST).
If you have questions regarding transcript receipt, please call
910-938-6246 or 910-938-6255.
Step 5 | Complete Your Application Process
You’re almost there!
-
After you have submitted your application and transcripts, your next step will be to attend a New Student Experience (orientation) session! Please visit https://www.coastalcarolina.edu/admissions/new-student-experience/ to register for a New Student Experience session, as well as learn more about how attending a New Student Experience session will provide you with personalized assistance focused on your personal or career training and educational goals.
-
After you have completed your New Student Experience session, you will connect with an Academic Advisor/Counselor to be admitted to Coastal. During this meeting, you will discuss your program of study along with registration options and, if you are interested in transferring credits, you will receive an unofficial transcript evaluation. An official transcript evaluation will be completed during your first semester at Coastal. Additional questions can be referred to: registrar@coastalcarolina.edu.
- Students who have a diagnosed disability and/or received specialized educational services and accommodations in high school such as an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) or Section 504 plan are encouraged to complete a Request for Accommodations Form. For more information on requesting accommodations, visit Disability Support Services.
Step 6 | Submit Intake Documentation
Submit the Veteran Student Intake Form to connect your benefits with Coastal Carolina Community College. The following documents or information may help with submitting the form:
- Student Social Security Number
- Sponsor Social Security Number (for Chapter 35 beneficiaries only)
- Program of interest at Coastal
- DD 214, VA Certificate of Eligibility, Statement of Benefits, Visiting Student Letter
Consider submitting your Member 4 Copy DD214 – Certificate of Release or Discharge to the Registrar’s Office for additional consideration of credit for prior learning and experience.
If you were classified as out-of-state for tuition purposes by RDS, you may be considered for the in-state tuition rate by providing a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility and submitting a Letter of Intent to Establish Residency to the Secretary for Admissions at colel@coastalcarolina.edu.
Obtain your Certificate of Eligibility online at ebenefits.va.gov or va.gov. You may also contact the VA to request this document by calling 888-GIBILL-1.
Obtain a copy of your DD214 online at va.gov or archives.gov.

Step 7 | Register for Courses and Submit Enrollment Certification Request Form
Once you have registered for classes, you must complete the Enrollment Certification Request Form. Failure to submit the form may cause a delay in processing which can affect the timing of disbursement for payment under your benefits.
- This form is accessible to students via the MyCCCC Portal.
- A Certification of Enrollment Request Form must be submitted once per semester if the student intends to use VA education benefits.
If you would like assistance with submitting this document, please contact Coastal's Veterans Programs Department by emailing veterans@coastalcarolina.edu or by calling 910-938-6380.
