The Edward Smith Textbook Lending Library was established by Mr. Edward Smith, a former instructor at Coastal Carolina Community College, who saw the need for students to have the proper books to be a success. The lending library was started with a generous donation of $100,000 by Mr. Smith and all the funds have been invested into the College’s endowment. Each year the Foundation uses up to five-percent of the earnings to purchase new additions of textbooks. All textbooks are reused each semester until the Foundation is notified of a new textbook or edition for the courses.

The College currently serves 247 students a semester. Students are eligible for this program if they meet the following requirements:

  • Enrolled in courses at Coastal Carolina Community College
  • Student is not receiving enough financial aid to cover the cost of tuition and textbooks
  • Students must have graduated from high school or high school equivalency certificate or diploma.

The Smith Textbook Lending Library does not have copies of all textbooks and books are lent out on a first come, first serve basis. Students may contact the College Foundation at foundation@coastalcarolina.edu or 910.938.6792 to learn more information.
