Submit Your Documents:

Complete our intake form and submit any other required documents as instructed. You must complete this form each time you are using a new VA education benefit or if you are returning from a break in enrollment for longer than three (3) semesters

Note: Failure to submit this form may cause a delay in the processing of enrollment information, which may delay benefit payments disbursed by the Department Veterans Affairs.

Verify Your Enrollment:

Once your Enrollment Certification Request Form has been processed by the Veterans Programs Department at Coastal Carolina Community College, your information will be submitted to the Department of Veterans Affairs for processing. Please wait up to two (2) business days to verify your certification has been received by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

After your enrollment has begun, you may be required by the Department of Veterans Affairs to verify your enrollment at the end of each month while your enrollment is active. This requirement applies to:

Ch30 Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty
Ch33 Post-9/11 GI Bill
Fry Scholarship
Transferred education benefits for family members

How Do I Apply for VA Education Benefits?

Apply online through VA.GOV for the GI Bill and other VA education benefits.

How Long Does It Take the VA to Process My Application?

It can take up to 30 days for the VA to determine your eligibility for VA education benefits. If you have questions about the status of your application, please call 888-442-4551 (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. EST).

When Does the VA Make Payments for GI Bill and other VA Education Benefits?

If you signed up for direct deposit when you applied for education benefits, the VA deposits your payment into your bank account at the end of each month of training or up to 10 business days after you verify your school enrollment.
If you asked for a waiver so you could receive your payments by check, you should receive your first check by mail up to 14 days after the you verify your school enrollment or the last calendar day of the month.

Why Haven’t I Received Any Benefits Payments?

There are many factors that affect payments. Please contact the Veteran Programs Department for assistance by emailing veterans@coastalcarolina.edu.

In order to use VA education benefits at Coastal, you must meet the following requirements:

You have applied for your VA education benefit.
You are at least 18 years old and have graduated from High School or completed other High School Equivalency programs.
You have submitted official transcripts indicating that you have completed High School or other High School Equivalency programs.
You have submitted official transcripts from any other postsecondary education institutions that you have attended.
You have submitted official transcripts from any vocational, trade, or professional training and certification facilities that you have attended.
You are meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress standards established by Coastal Carolina Community College, published in College Catalog, and approved by the North Carolina State Approving Agency. These standards must be evaluated prior to using and during the use of VA education benefits.
The course(s) that you have enrolled in contribute to the completion of your current program of study or workforce training program.
You do not already have earned credit for any course(s) that you have enrolled in.

While using VA education benefits, please consider the following:

Ch30, Ch1606, and Ch35 VA education benefits do not pay the College directly for tuition and fees.
Ch33, Ch33 Transfer of Entitlement, and Fry Scholarship VA education benefits may not pay certain fees directly to the College.
Fees not covered by VA education benefits include Inclusive Access (electronic course content) fees, physical books or course materials purchased at the Bookstore, Lab kit fees, and other supply related fees such as tools, uniforms, or badges
If you enroll in a course that does not meet the requirements for VA education benefits, you will be responsible for addressing those charges.
If any charges are not addressed in a timely manner, you will not be able to register for additional courses, request transcripts from Coastal Carolina, or graduate from your current program.
Enrollment information will be sent to the VA as soon as possible, but no later than 30 days from the start of the enrollment period. Regional Processing Offices have up to 30 days to process enrollment information once received. Payments may take up to 90 days from the start date of a course to be disbursed by the VA.
Students are encouraged to make additional arrangements for their financial security and welfare throughout the duration of the certification processing cycle.
When making any changes to your contact information, program of study, or course enrollments, you should notify the Veterans Programs Department as soon as possible.
Ch30 and Ch33 GI Bill benefits require enrollment verification at the end of each month in order to receive monthly payments throughout the enrollment period. Ch35 benefits require enrollment verification if the student is pursuing a non-college-degree (NCD) program such as a diploma or certificate.
If you decrease your training time (i.e. drop classes, leave school, etc.) and the VA has already processed a payment for tuition and fees, monthly housing payments, or other stipend payments, a debt or overpayment will occur. You are responsible for keeping track of your tuition and fee account balance and payments. If an overpayment occurs, you are responsible for paying the school for any charges no longer covered by the VA, and for repaying the VA for any funds that are no longer eligible under your VA education benefits.

The following programs offered through Workforce Training and Continuing Education(CE) are approved for VA education benefits:

Truck Driver Training (CDL)
Powerline Technician (Electrical Lineman)
Manicurist
Nurse Aide I
Emergency Medical Science (Emergency Medical Technician)
Medical Coding (Medical Coding Specialist)

Check with the Veterans Programs Department to verify that the accredited curriculum (CU) program of study at Coastal Carolina Community College is approved for the use of VA education benefits. When enrolling in courses, please consider the following:

Courses that you have already completed with an earned letter grade of “D-” or higher are not eligible for VA education benefits.
CE Courses that you have already completed, and any related “refresher” courses, are not eligible for VA education benefits.
Courses that not required for completion of your current program are not eligible for VA education benefits.
You may only pursue one program at a time. Any course that you are enrolling in as a requirement for a future program that you have not been admitted to are not eligible for VA education benefits.
Any 000-level course (i.e., MAT-003, ENG-011, or CHM-090) offered at CCCC is considered a remedial/deficiency course by the VA and must be taken in a 100% seated format in order to be eligible under VA education benefits. Any remedial/deficiency courses taken in a Partial (P), hybrid (H), hybrid-flexible (Y) or online (W) instruction formats are not eligible under VA education benefits.
CE courses offered in online, hybrid, or partial formats are not approved for the use of your VA education benefits.

The VA calculates payments using several systems. For Ch33, Ch33 Transfer of Entitlement, and Fry Scholarship benefits, benefits are calculated using a ROP system (60% to 100%). Under all other benefits, the VA uses a training time system (Half-Time to Full-Time).

Generally speaking:

100% ROP and Full-Time training time requires 12 credit hours for Fall and Spring (16-week) semesters and 9 credit hours for Summer (10-week) semesters.

For a more consistent experience with regard to VA education payment rates, students are encouraged to enroll in 12 credit hours or more for the full enrollment period for every semester (10-week and 16-week enrollment periods).
